    Making a difference, one project at a time

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers utilizes volunteers as a workforce multiplier across the nation which resulted in an equivalent value of more than $45 million in volunteer hours last year. Volunteers are filling roles at lakes across the nation. More than 2,100 volunteers assisted the Fort Worth District in 2022. Thanks to the volunteers, many of the lakes were able to complete projects that would have otherwise been delayed.

    Ranger For A Day

    The park ranger is the face of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at each of its lakes and reservoirs. You see them patrolling the lakes, campgrounds, recreation areas and picnicking sites. If you had the chance to step into their shoes for a day, would you do it? Members of the local Dallas and Fort Worth media had that opportunity recently during a ranger orientation day.

    Out with the Old, in with the New

    On the morning of March 2, 2022, a prescribed burn was initiated at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) in an effort to create, restore, and revitalize prairies below the Lewisville Dam. This fire was assumed to be controlled prior to noon, but due to weather condition changes, that fire escaped its intended area.

    Lewisville Lake Disabled Youth Hunt Offers Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

    Since 2012 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Fort Worth District staff at Lewisville Lake have conducted special hunts on the federally-managed land around the lake. What started as a hunt for injured servicemembers has evolved into what is now known as “Wheelin’ Jake’s You Hunt” for disabled children.
  • Fort Worth District partners with Texas Emergency Management for Flood Risk Management

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Fort Worth District hosted members of Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) at the Lewisville Lake Dam Dec. 9, 2020 to discuss risk management activities associated with the Lewisville Dam Safety Modification, as well as the planning and partnerships of related activities now and in the future.

    Park Ranger Leads Charge to Conserve Natural Resources at Lewisville Lake

    As part of an ongoing effort, Lewisville Lake Park Rangers are leading the Lewisville Lake Fisheries Restoration Project with the assistance of the U.S Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) - Lewisville Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility (LAERF), Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Inland Fisheries Division, Boy Scouts of America, Department of Energy Oak Ridge for Science and Education, and the Marcus High School Bass Club.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District partnered with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) to host the 2019 Wheelin’ Youth Hunt for five physically challenged youth hunters on federally-managed property at Lewisville Lake.
