The Fort Polk Rail System in Fort Polk, Louisiana officially reopened May 1, 2018. The major railroad repair project included rebuilding the subbase, repairs to the surface and alignment, replacing crossties and switch ties, and repairs to the gauge, profile, and rail joints. Despite the many challenges over the five-month construction duration, such as weather delays, the team delivered a quality product on time and within budget.

The Corps team designed six wetland ponds to capture enough runoff to create six wetland plant communities at the heart of the project. Its Frisco partners worked with subdivision developers to obtain sufficient land adjacent to Corps-controlled floodplains. An excavation contractor built berms and water control structures. Biologists actively re-introduced missing or scarce native plants.

The Lewisville Lake Dam 161-foot Embankment slide repairs are well underway, placement of bedding and riprap on the access ramp continues. Estimated completion date is mid-August 2016.
