Fort Worth District officials release listing of open and closed recreation areas in the region

FORT WORTH, Texas –Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representatives, in preparation of the Labor Day weekend have released a comprehensive list of open and closed recreation areas throughout their region of responsibility. The District is responsible for 25 Lake Projects in Texas. Most of those lakes are still recovering from the impacts of the floods in 2015 and recent high water events.  

The following list, by region outlines current open and closed recreational areas. All dates are subject to change. Contact the lake office or visit the Fort Worth District website at http://www.swf.usace.army.mil/About/LakesandRecreationInformation.aspx for information regarding a specific area. 

• Aquilla Lake

  • Hackberry Creek boat ramp is closed.

  • Dairy Hill boat ramp is open.

  • Old School boat ramp is open.

  • Outlet Works/Fishing is open.

  • 1534 Access Point is open.

• Bardwell

  • High View Park day use picnic area and swim beach are closed.

  • Little Mustang Creek Park is closed.

  • Mott Park day use picnic area and swim beach are closed.

  • Waxahachie Creek Park day use picnic area and sites #41-#50 and #72-#89 are closed.

  • All multi-use trails are closed.

• Belton

  • Arrowhead Point Park boat ramp is open.

  • Sparta Valley Park is closed.

  • Belton Lakeview Park is open.

  • Cedar Ridge Park boat ramp is open.

  • Leona Park Ramp is open (south/east entrance only).

  • Temple Lake Park north boat ramp is open, all other facilities are closed.

  • Westcliff Park boat ramp is open, camping and day use areas are closed.

  • Winkler Park is closed.

  • Roger’s Park is open.

  • Iron Bridge Park is open.

  • McGregor Park is closed.

  • Owl Creek Park is closed.

  • Horseshoe Bend is closed.

  • Live Oak Park is open.

• Benbrook

  • Bear Creek all sites and one boat ramp are open.

  • Longhorn is open.

  • Mustang Park is open except for the swim beach.

  • North Holiday swim beach and southern ramp are closed.

  • Rocky Creek is closed.

  • South Holiday boat ramps are open, but courtesy docks and sites 1-15, 50, 51, 64-71 and 94-96 are closed.

  • Westcreek Circle is closed.

  • All Horse Trails are closed.

• Canyon Lake

  • Boat ramps 10, 17, 20 and 21 are closed.

  • Little Jacobs Creek Park is closed.

  • Potters Creek

    • Sites 4-24 in Loop 1 are open.

    • Crappie Dock is closed.

  • Cranes Mill Crappie Dock is closed.

  • Cranes Mill Tent section is closed. 

• Cooper Dam/Jim Chapman Stilling Basin access area is open.

• Georgetown

  • Cedar Break Park Courtesy Dock and Fishing Dock in day use and camping area are closed.

  • Jim Hogg Park Courtesy Dock and Fishing Dock are closed.

  • Overlook Fishing Pier is closed.

  • Russell Park Courtesy Dock is closed.

  • Tejas Park is open but only accessible via CR 258 from Ronald Reagan Blvd.

• Granger

  • Friendship Park day use area and swim beach are closed.

• Grapevine

  • Katie’s, Vineyards, Sand Bass and Trawick boat ramps are open.

  • Dove, McPherson, Meadowmere, Lakeview North and Lakeview South boat ramps are closed.    

• Hords Creek Lake

  • Swim beaches are closed.

  • Boat Ramps in Lakeside Park are closed except for boat ramp 2 near site 13.

  • Flatrock Park is closed.

• Joe Pool

  • Cedar Hill State Park has several closures.

  • Lynn Creek Park is closed.

  • Britton Park is closed.

  • Lloyd Park has several closures. 

• Lake O’ the Pines

  • Avalon Park, Pebble Beach, Lavonia (North and South) Mallard, Little Ridge, Twin Groves, Ticky Creek, Clearlake (South) Bratonia, Highland and Brockdale boat ramps are open.

  • Caddo Park and boat ramp are closed.

  • Clear Lake Park day use area is closed.

  • Elm Creek Park and boat ramp are closed.

  • Lakeland Park and boat ramp are closed. 

• Lewisville

  • Hickory Creek is open.

  • Westlake Park is closed.

  • Big Sandy Access is open.

  • Doe Branch Access is open.

    • Campsites 37-77 and restrooms #4, #5 and #6 are closed.

    • Group shelter is closed.

  • Oak Park Day Use is closed.

  • Sowell Creek Day Use boat ramp is open.

  • Copperas Creek Park is closed.

  • High Point Park is closed. Day use equestrian trail parking allowed at the main entrance.

• Stillhouse Hollow

  • Dana Peak Park is open.

  • Union Grove Park boat ramp is open, campsites 1-14 are closed.

  • River’s Bend Park is open.

• Somerville Lake

  • All boat ramps are closed.

  • Big Creek Park is closed.

  • Birch Creek State Park is closed.

  • Nails Creek State Park is closed.

  • The road through the uncontrolled spillway is closed.

• Town Bluff

  • Campers Cove is closed.

  • Magnolia Ridge Park is open.

  • Sandy Creek Park is open.

• Waco Lake

  • Airport Beach Park is closed.

  • Airport Park boat ramp is open, campgrounds are closed.

  • Bosque Park is open.

  • Dam Hike and Bike access points are closed.

  • Flat Rock boat ramp is open.

  • Reynolds Creek is closed.

  • Lacy Point is open.

  • Speegleville Park campground is closed, boat ramp is open.

  • Twin Bridges Park boat ramp and Day Use park are closed.

  • Midway Park campground is closed, boat ramp is open.

  • Koehne Park is closed. 

• Whitney Lake

  • Cedar Creek Park is open.

  • Cedron Creek is closed.

  • Kimball Bend is closed.

  • Lofers Bend Day Use boat ramp is open, Silo Road is closed.

  • Lofers East is closed.

  • Lofers West is open.

  • McCown Valley Park and Day Use are open with exception of the screened shelters.

  • Nolan River is open.

  • Plowman Creek is closed.

  • Riverside East is open.

  • Soldiers Bluff is open.

  • Steele Creek is closed.

  • Wailing Bend, Stateside Camping Loop and boat ramp open are open, Cliff Side is closed.

• Wright Patman Lake

  • Dam Road is closed to the public from FM 2148 to access the Project Office or the Dam area please use access road off of U.S. Highway 59.

  • All hunting access roads are closed for the season except for Black Point, Mudd Lake and WP 32 and WP 34. Hunters and fishermen should use extreme caution at other primitive park locations and boat ramps due to high water levels.

  • Lower Spillway Park is closed.

  • Clear Springs Park campsites A1-A26, B1-B18 and C11 are closed.

  • Elliott Bluff is closed.

  • Heron Creek boat ramp is open.

  • Oak Park is open.

  • North Shore Park boat ramp is open, day-use park is closed.

  • Piney Point campsites A28-A43 are closed, boat ramp is open.

  • Rocky Point Park is open

  • Spillway Park is open

  • Maiden Lake Park campsites P9 & P13 are closed.

The Corps of Engineers is concerned for public safety, and urges boaters to wear life jackets and use caution while navigating. Floodwaters have created unfamiliar boating conditions and increased flows into the reservoirs which have flushed a large amount of debris into the main bodies of water. Boaters are reminded to CLEAN, DRAIN AND DRY YOUR BOAT, TRAILER AND GEAR!
