USACE halts gated flood releases from Somerville Dam

Published May 27, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at Somerville Lake Dam announce they have suspended all gated flood releases due to the current weather pattern, continuing rains and current Brazos River flows. With the current lake elevation, the roadway across the uncontrolled spillway is inundated and has been closed. The top of the spillway crest is 258 feet mean sea level, which is also the current forecasted peak pool elevation. However, as rainfall continues, it is possible for the elevation to increase further. As conditions change, additional notifications will be made. Corps personnel have assumed 24-hour surveillance and continue to monitor the situation closely.

Corps officials remind everyone to heed all warning signs and when encountering a flooded area, “Turn Around. Don’t Drown!”
