FORT WORTH, Texas – In keeping with the standards set by the Department of Defense and U.S. Army, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, honored its top achievers in the area of Equal Employment Opportunity during its Engineer Day Annual Awards ceremony June 13.

Peggy Grubbs, a 30-year Federal employee who is the Deputy District Engineer and Chief of Programs and Project Management Division, Fort Worth District, was named the Equal Employment Opportunity Supervisor of the Year for her continued outstanding leadership that exceeds all norms for helping to promote and set a  high standard of equal employment opportunity throughout the district.

As the senior Civilian in the district, Ms Grubbs provides continuity of corporate leadership, maintains effective management processes, aligns resources within the district to meet district objectives, while simultaneously ensuring that the equal opportunity programs for minority groups, minorities and disadvantaged employees are implemented, operational and very effective.

“Many leaders have stellar traits that lead us to consider them as highly effective leaders, but it takes a special type of caring and understanding of the needs of a diverse workforce to be both an exceptional leader and champion for equal opportunity, and Peggy is that special leader,” said Col. Charles Klinge, Commander, Fort Worth District.

“I am  honored to be named the EEO Supervisor of the Year. It is important to provide opportunities to everyone and  mentor all employees equally . My priority is to assure that anyone can bring their talents and skills and be considered equally.  Good work, attitude, and leadership gets noticed regardless of the  position.  Our employees are the best of the best and they each deserve every opportunity to achieve their career goals,” said  Grubbs.

Denisha Braxton, a four-year plus Federal employee who is a Public Affairs Specialist and the Fort Worth District’s Black Employment Program Coordinator, was named the Equal Employment Opportunity Employee of the Year for her continued outstanding work in all facets of special emphasis outreach and activities that promote equal opportunity and inclusion for the districts’ diverse and talented workforce.

Braxton continues to strive for and achieve well above the spectrum as she actively promotes awareness not just in BEP-related events but in every facet of special emphasis and outreach throughout the year.  Her work has brought about a noticeable increase and participation in special emphasis events and outreach activities throughout the district as she promotes, volunteers and dedicates time promoting equality as the lead and or a team member for the numerous district and joint-agency celebrations and events year-round.

“I continue to be amazed and impressed at how someone who hasn’t yet reached the junior management stage of her career carries out a key area of our EEO outreach and special emphasis mission with the knowledge and foresight Denisha does, while simultaneously excelling in here primary career field as a Public Affairs Specialist,” said Tonia Buxton, Chief, Equal Employment Opportunity Office, Fort Worth District.

“I’m very passionate about educating our District on the importance of the Equal Employment Opportunity program,” said Braxton.  “I joined the program because I wanted to be a part of a group of people that wanted to increase awareness to all of the diverse cultures we have within our workforce.”
