U.S. Army Corps of Engineers participate in “Super Science Saturday”

FORT WORTH, Texas – As part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics outreach initiatives the District will participate in "Super Science Saturday" April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Our Mother of Mercy School, Fort Worth, Texas.

The faculty and staff of Our Mother of Mercy School will host the event for students, family members and the local community. This event is not a science fair where students bring projects for competition; instead participants will take part in experiments, scientific demonstrations, shows, and viewing displays.

The District is focusing its outreach efforts on increasing awareness and inspiring students to pursue careers in STEM fields. Corps personnel will assist students with hands-on experiments during the event.

"Our STEM program is one of our most important and rewarding programs. We want to increase not just the number of engineers, but a diverse group of young minds to be future analysts, architects, and leaders," said Col. Charles H. Klinge, Fort Worth District Commander. "The demand for future engineers and scientists is increasing and we want to continue to broaden our STEM outreach, not just for the Fort Worth District but the Nation."

"Once our community enjoys a science day together, we are hoping that positive attitudes towards studying science will spread," said Susan Woerly, chairperson for Super Science Saturday.
