Storm Damage at Stillhouse Hollow Lake Cause Closures

FORT WORTH, Texas – Due to extensive storm damage on Monday evening, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Stillhouse Hollow Lake staff announce the immediate closure of the following locations: Chalk Ridge Falls, Dana Peak Park, and Union Grove Park.

Boat ramps will remain open at Union Grove and Dana Peak.

Strong winds on Monday caused damage in multiple locations. Post-storm inspection includes uprooted trees and broken limbs blocking roads and trails, recreational vehicles overturned, campsite shelters and restroom facility roof damage, as well as damage to water and electrical services.

“At this time, we are still evaluating the damage from the storms Monday night. Once we have that list, we will work on repairs,” stated Lake Manager John Thibodeaux. “We have cancelled reservations and closed the affected parks until repairs are made with hopes of having everything available prior to the 4th of July holiday. If we can get repairs completed before then, we will reopen earlier.”

Fortunately, no injuries occurred as campers took storm warnings seriously and found shelter in restroom facilities or off-site locations prior to the storm’s impact. Monday night’s storm demonstrated why it is always important to be weather aware and have a way to receive weather alerts.
