Officials with the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Granger Lake will temporarily close the Granger Lake Dam road for surface and embankment maintenance from Dec. 7, 2023, until approximately Aug. 2024.
The road closure will allow contractors to remove and replace more than 12,500 linear feet of road surface, and up to 14” of underlying road bed, to substantially update and strengthen the entire dam road surface.
“Over the course of the past 30 years we’ve had a significant increase in traffic on the dam road, and although we do routine and periodic maintenance to fix cracks and damaged asphalt, we have never taken the road down to the subgrade,” said Brad Ellis, Granger Lake manager. “We received about $5 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law between FY23 and FY24, so not only are we improving the dam road, but we’re also in the process of upgrading some of our parks.”
The repairs to the dam road will ensure dam and embankment integrity which fulfills the Corps of Engineers’ mission of flood risk management to downstream communities.
Alternative bypasses are State Road 95 to the west and County Road 428 to the east.
