Prescribed burn operations at Reynolds Creek, Waco Lake

Working in conjunction with Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Killeen Fire Department, and Salado Volunteer Fire Department, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Stillhouse Hollow Lake will be conducting prescribed burn operations March 8, at the Union Grove Wildlife Management Area near Salado, Texas located at Union Grove Lane off FM 2484.

The prescribed burn has been planned to mitigate hazardous fuel loads, reducing the risk of potential wildfires. The burn will also remove overgrown vegetation, invasive vegetation, and driftwood. This will allow native vegetation to grow and improve the habitat conditions for local wildlife.

River’s Bend Park and Union Grove Wildlife Management Area will be closed to the public at the time of the prescribed burn.

As with all burn operations, this planned time frame is contingent upon weather. The partnering agencies request that bystanders and adjacent landowners remain out of the closed park areas during burn operations. Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Stillhouse Hollow Lake Project Office at 254-939-2461.
