Officials with the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that the embankment road located between Lake Somerville Marina & Campground and Welch Park will be closed temporarily beginning July 13.

The closure, which will last approximately 10 weeks, is due to safety concerns caused by visitors parking along the roadway at the outlet works parking lot.  This area still remains closed for repairs along with the north embankment road used for walking. This closure will also allow for repairs to be made safely to guardrail that has been previously damaged.  As repairs are completed in phases, portions of the area could be opened sooner.

“To ensure public safety it will be necessary to close the roadway, until all repairs can be completed,” said Somerville Lake manager, Russell J. Meier.  “Individuals wishing to access any of these areas will not be able to do so at this time.”

With safety as its number one priority, the lake office asks that any visitors to the lake who will be near or in the water to wear a life jacket and follow CDC protocols for COVID-19.
