Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Canyon Lake will close the dam service road for herbicide application beginning on March 16.

An agency contractor will spray the rip rap and the downstream embankment for woody plants and other unwanted vegetation.  The dam service road is expected to be closed for two days to allow the contractor to stage equipment and apply herbicide.

“We understand a large number of people use the dam service road as a place to walk, take pictures, and enjoy being outdoors, but for the safety of all visitors, including pets enjoying a walk with their owner, we will be restricting access until the work is completed,” announced Canyon Lake manager, Javier Pérez Ortiz.

The Corps anticipates reopening the road on March 18, when the contractor moves his equipment onto the downstream embankment and off the Dam Service Road.

“Herbicide application on Canyon Dam occurs twice a year, once in spring and once in late summer,” said Ortiz.
