JASPER, Texas -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at Sam Rayburn Reservoir and B.A. Steinhagen/Town Bluff Reservoir, Jasper, Texas, announce that camping reservations will only be available through the Recreation.gov reservation service starting October 1.
Reservations will be available by calling 1-877-444-6777, through www.recreation.gov or by downloading the Recreation.gov smartphone application for IPhone. An android version for the Recreation.gov smartphone application is anticipated to be available by October. Phone services to acquire reservations by credit/bank card will be available to customers that arrive at Corps of Engineers managed park locations without a prior reservation. On-site park hosts will be at each park facility to assist campers. Reservations will be required prior to occupying a campsite. Neither reservoir will be accepting cash at gatehouse locations.
B.A. Steinhagen/Town Bluff will no longer charge a day use fee or boat launch fee at Corps of Engineers managed campgrounds starting October 1. Sam Rayburn will continue to charge a day use fee for boat ramps/swim beaches through the established cash/check honor vault system. All annual and America the Beautiful passes will continue to be available for purchase at the Sam Rayburn Project office by credit/bank card, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Annual passes will be available for purchase on weekends during the recreation season at locations to be determined.
In addition, some Corps of Engineers managed campgrounds at Sam Rayburn Reservoir will experience a temporary seasonal closure for camping, but boat ramps will not be impacted by the temporary seasonal closure. These temporary seasonal closure decisions are based on previous years’ facility utilization data.
It is each lake’s goal to continue to provide recreational opportunities to as many visitors as possible. The following temporary seasonal closures are scheduled to be enacted:
Sam Rayburn Reservoir
Mill Creek Campground – Closed October 1 – February 29, 2020
San Augustine Campground – Closed October 1 – February 29, 2020
