Temporary closure of recreation facilities due to work on Whitney Dam

Published July 26, 2017

FORT WORTH, Texas – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representatives at Whitney Lake announce the temporary closure of Lofers Bend Day Use Park and part of Lofers Bend West Campground to replace degraded rip rap and regrade a portion of the upstream slope of Whitney Lake Dam.

Riprap is comprised of large loose stones on the slope of the dam which prevents erosion from wave action. The degraded riprap will then be placed along the shoreline in Lofers Bend West Campground to help protect the shoreline from erosion. Members of the public will be restricted from entering the construction zone during the duration of the work.

The Corps of Engineers is working to minimize the impact of this project to the recreating public.  As always, visitors are encouraged to wear a life jacket, follow warning signs, and be aware of their surroundings. For more information on Whitney Lake, call the project office at 254-622-3332.
