Media Day at Sam Rayburn Reservoir
Piney Woods Hydropower Business Line Manager Tom Webb is interviewed during a media opportunity in January about the high lake levels and release of flood water at the Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Although the reservoir was close to the top of conservation pool in the first part of December an unusally rainy December and January pushed the lake to almost a new pool of record during January. Power generation through the Powerhouse and releases through the floodgates have helped keep lake levels from engaging the labyrinth weir spillway at elevation 176. The pool of record for Sam Rayburn is elevation 175.15, recorded on March 10, 1992. Engagement of the labyrinth weir spillway remains possible if the current rainy cycle continues.
