Waco Lake Hunting Program Changes

Fort Worth District, USACE
Published July 31, 2025

Effective this 2025 – 2026 Hunting Season, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Waco Lake will require all hunters to obtain a permit through Recreation.gov, regardless of game type. The cost of each permit will be $15. Permits will be available starting August 15th, 2025.

We recognize transitions like this may take time for the public to adjust to, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Key changes to hunting methods include:

  • Deer and feral hog hunting will be restricted to archery only, regardless of the season.
  • Shotguns may be used for hunting dove and small game (rabbits and squirrels) using a #2 shot and smaller. Waterfowl may only be hunted using non-toxic #2 shot and smaller.

We thank the public for their continued support in helping us protect and preserve this valuable recreational resource for current and future generations.
