Floods Delay Sam Rayburn Reservoir’s Master Plan Revision

Published April 29, 2016
FORT WORTH, Texas – Due to the recent floods a postponement to the revised Sam Rayburn Master Plan schedule has occurred. Inundated federal lands resulted in a delay in a habitat survey vital to helping making resource management decisions and identify unique ecosystems and habitat at Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Floods during the spring of 2015 did not allow the habitat survey to occur and was postponed until the spring of 2016. Again, Sam Rayburn has reached flood stages during the spring of 2016 further delaying the ability to conduct a habitat survey. Once the habitat survey can be conducted, the draft Master Plan can be completed and a second public meeting will be scheduled to inform the public of the revisions made.

In April of 2015 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Fort Worth District held two initial public scoping meetings to announce the start of the Sam Rayburn Reservoir Master Plan revision and receive public comments and input. Public participation and input is an essential piece of revising the prior Master Plan. No definitive schedule has been established for when the habitat survey can be successfully completed but is anticipated for late summer of 2016. The public meeting will then follow likely in the fall of 2016.

Questions pertaining to the revision can be addressed to: Robert Morrow, CESWF-PEC-PM, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, P.O. Box 17300, Fort Worth, TX 76102-0300, Robert.Morrow@usace.army.mil.
