Canyon Lake Announces Transition of North Park to Day-use

Officials with the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have announced North Park will transition from a primitive camping area to a day-use only park, effective immediately.

North Park will now be open to the public seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. until sunset, providing expanded access for outdoor recreation including picnicking, shoreline access, hiking, and wildlife viewing. North Park will remain free to the public, with no entrance or day-use fees required.

“North Park has long been a valued recreational area,” said Brett Mazey, Canyon Lake Manager. “Transitioning to a day-use park allows us to better protect natural resources at Overlook Park, a scenic observation area which has experienced increased misuse as a day-use area. This change will also enhance visitor safety and provide more consistent public access throughout the year”.

Visitors should be aware that North Park does not include a designated public swimming area. A low-risk water entry area is available that may be used for informal water access; however, swimming is at your own risk.

The adjacent eastern shoreline next to North Park contains hazardous cliff features that present a significantly elevated risk of serious injury or fatality. This area is closed to the public and strictly off-limits.
