Stillhouse Hollow Lake staff is pleased to announce that the road repairs at Dana Peak Park are now complete, and the road has been reopened to the public. We extend our sincerest gratitude to all park visitors and community members for your patience and understanding during this essential closure.
The primary goal of this project was to address significant safety concerns and prevent further deterioration of the roadway. Before the construction, the road shoulders were in poor condition, narrowing some spots to just 17 feet. This created hazardous conditions for vehicles passing one another, especially with the significant drop-off along the road's edge. The situation was worsened by unauthorized parking on the fragile roadside, which accelerated the erosion and damage.
To ensure the long-term safety and sustainability of our park, the following improvements have been made:
- Road Widening and Stabilization: The road has been repaired and fortified to provide safer, wider passage for all vehicles. A curb was added to prevent any future deterioration to the road edges.
- New Centralized Parking Lot: A new parking area has been constructed to accommodate visitors.
- Designated Trailhead Parking: To protect the roadway and surrounding landscape, parking is now permitted only in designated areas. We have established three official trailhead parking locations along the entrance road.
A map detailing the new parking lot and the three designated trailhead spots will be made available to guide visitors. We urge everyone to use these official parking areas. By parking in designated spots only, you are helping us minimize damage to road edges, allowing us to focus future maintenance efforts on these areas and preserve the natural beauty and integrity of Dana Peak Park for years to come.
Thank you once again for your cooperation. We look forward to seeing you enjoy the improved and safer access to the park!
