Officials with the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have announced the reopening of the overlook and the dam service road at Canyon Lake.
Overlook Scenic Viewing Area has been closed for the past eight months to allow for necessary repairs to the dam service bridge. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of an outstanding project team, repairs were completed nearly two months ahead of schedule.
With construction now finished, the public can once again enjoy access to Overlook Scenic Viewing Area, known for its sweeping views of Canyon Lake, Canyon Lake spillway, and Gaudalupe River.
The area offers opportunities for fishing, hiking, and sightseeing, and visitors are encouraged to enjoy its spacious grounds and hike across the dam service road.
“We’re excited to reopen this iconic area of Canyon Lake earlier than anticipated” said Brett Mazey, Canyon Lake Manager. “The completion of these repairs not only ensures the long-term safety and reliability of the dam infrastructure but also restores public access to one of the lake’s most scenic and popular destinations.”
Overlook Scenic Viewing Area is open under the following seasonal hours:
- Winter hours (1 October to prior to Memorial Day Weekend)
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Summer Hours (Memorial Day Weekend to 31 Sept)
