Girl Scouts from Frisco helped plant Texas native grasses along the Trinity River banks near wetland Cell D in Dallas. This new Dallas Floodway Extension project habitat reduces flood risk to the city by quickly conveying floodwaters downstream.
Wetland plants, raised at the Corps' Lewisville Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility, are replanted in cages at Cell D to protect them from natural predators so they can get established. This flood reduction wetland is quality wildlife habitat just 4 miles from downtown Dallas.
Work on the Fort Hood Replacement Medical Center project continues to progress with a scheduled completion date of Spring 2014. The new 947,000 square foot facility, which is approximately 70 percent larger than the existing 45-year old Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, specifically addresses Fort Hood's most pressing needs in the areas of behavioral health, medical/surgical specialty clinics, and pediatric primary care.
