Corps, local agencies conduct mock drowning exercise for Whitney Middle School students

Published May 20, 2014

FORT WORTH, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Whitney Lake will present its third Forever 15: Tragedy on the Water program for students of Whitney Middle School May 22 at Walling Bend Park at 9 a.m. The program depicts drowning and rescue, turned recovery as part of an elaborate water safety public service announcement developed by two Waco Lake park rangers, Elizabeth Anderson and Randall McCartney.

During an early morning assembly, Whitney Middle School students will view a video of fellow students have fun at the lake. One of the boys decides to jump off the cliff to impress his friends. He jumps and after a few minutes he does not emerge from the water. The students will then hear the 911 call followed by a bus ride to the site of the accident. As they arrive to the scene they will see a real life response from local, state and federal agencies to the call for help.
