Fort Worth District employee selected to Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame 

FORT WORTH, Texas – Hall of Fame, Ring of Honor, Gallery of Distinguished Employees, the titles signify the inductee was at the pinnacle of their field, sport or profession. On April 6, James Clemons, will add hall of famer to his title after he is inducted into the 2012 Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame. 

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to be selected as a member of the hall of fame,” said Clemons.

Clemons, a Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee of almost 40 years, lettered in Tennis at the university from 1955-1958. He was the team captain for three years during which he won the Southwestern Athletic Conference each year playing singles and doubles. His collegiate record was 27-1 for both singles and doubles.

An architectural technician, Clemons was nicknamed “Tchaikovsky,” in High school because he was also a member of the choir. “They called me “Tchaikovsky” in high school and it stuck with me all the way through college.” 

Clemons recalled a tournament in Tuskegee, Ala., as a stand out event due to the type of court he would play on. “It was the first time I had played on a clay court,” said the Corpus Christi, Texas native.
