U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Olympic Gold Medalist Urge Water Safety

FORT WORTH, Texas – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District and Olympic Gold Medalist – Neil Walker will talk

about water safety in conjunction with National Safe Boating Week May 18. Col. Richard J. Muraski, Fort Worth District

Commander; and Walker who won one gold and one silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and one gold and one bronze

medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, will kick off National Safe Boating Week, May 18 at Lewisville Lake.

Col. Muraski and Walker will talk about the ramp-up by the Corps and many public water safety/swimming experts such as

Walker to ensure people have a safe experience out on the water throughout the peak summer season and beyond.

Col. Muraski and Walker will take press questions on the landing at the entrance of Westlake Park at Lewisville Lake, starting at

10 a.m., followed by a trip on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake Patrol boat and work barge, where they will take additional

questions. The Denton County Fire and Rescue Department who are partnered with the Corps in educating the public on water

safety will also be onsite to talk about water safety and demonstrate key safety techniques.
